When an igloo was home

“When we had enough seal blubber for the oil lamp, it wasn’t cold.”
Lizzie Irniq and Alasie Koneak, Inuit

For sleeping, part of the igloo floor was covered with mats made of boughs over which caribou skins were placed. The bed was very large. If caribou skins weren’t available, dog hides were used.
